RESTful API Design Using Python Flask

With highly mainstream websites and mobile applications replete with aesthetic JavaScript-built user interfaces, building a scalable and efficiently-developed API to support such is a viable skill set.

This brief learning course aims at helping its learners collect the necessary knowledge to build a professional API platform with pure Flask as utility absent of supplemental libraries. The experts teaching this course will introduce the most basic concepts surrounding the design of RESTful API platforms.

This course teaches learners how to set up an authentication API layer, conduct tests on the built applications, and efficiently build API endpoints.

The Course Beneficiaries

  • This course was created for programmers and developers possessing fundamental knowledge of Flask wanting to learn designing and building professional API platforms.
  • Application architects wanting to comprehend how to more effectively build API apps
  • CTOs wanting to understand the most desirable practices for the design of APIs
  • Students of Computer Science wanting to be immersed in actual API building concepts
  • Professionals who are already knowledgeable with API development through Flask, potentially treating this lesson as an update on their existing skills

  • Basic knowledge of Python and Flask
  • Working knowledge of databases
  • At least a year’s worth of professional programing and development experience
  • Experience in application architecture
  • Basic working knowledge of working with a PC with a Code Editor, preferably VSCode

RESTful API Design Using Python Flask

RESTful API Design using Python Flask, Part 1 of 3: Get Started

This segment of the course introduces the learners to the fundamentals of RESTful API Design. This is done so that the learners are able to understand the concepts integral to the understanding what RESTful API is and its 6 constraints.

RESTful API Design using Python Flask, Part 2 of 3: CRUD and Authentication

This segment discusses how learners can build a simple  CRUD application through the use of Python Flask. This lesson details the dependability of Flask through its simplicity and non-enforcement of dependencies. This segment registers that through Flask, developers are given freedom to structure their projects the way they intend to or want to.

This segment also details how to go about creating the authentication checks, specifically through an API authentication layer, on the CRUD application for the learner to safeguard its build.

RESTful API Design using Python Flask, Part 3 of 3: Update and Testing

This segment of the course goes into a detailed discussion of how the learners could go about creating updates for the application that they have learned to build.

The discussion also samples how the RESTful API design could be tested for function and workability.
